A listing of what we plan on reviewing this upcoming month of July!
3 out of 5. A mostly formulaic Souls-like experience that offers up fun exploration with good verticality and combat that is competently executed.
3 out of 5. A fun (and free) 15-minute parody of the Metroidvania map system that is well worth taking the time to play.
Something Ate My Alien, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 2, Rogue Legacy 2 Release Date, and some amazing looking expiring kickstarters.
4 out of 5. A magic based puzzle platformer with unique Zelda-like dungeons and a large overworld full of optional secrets. Excellent level design and clever gimmicks makes exploration a delight.
4 out of 5. While more grounded than the wild fantasy that you might be accustomed to from Igavania-style titles, Chasm still provides an interesting challenge with decent options for replayability.
The Steam Game Festival Launched this week with many Metroidvania demos to check out! Also, it’s your last chance for the Vernal Edge and Last Faith Kickstarters. Plus five new steam pages to check out.
4 out of 5. While it has a bit of a slow start, it proves itself to be a solid combination of Castlevania and Run-and-Gun platformers. Face off with some excellent bosses using the weapons you find.
Outbuddies DX has released and is now on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, Weapon Hacker is now out, Moon Raider gets a kickstarter, and Last Knight, Lorera, and The Wine steam pages.
4 out of 5. A delightfully open-ended Metroidvania that asks you to forge your own path to its final encounter, with a few twists to encourage resource planning and player expression.
There’s nothing quite like Hollow Knight, but here are our picks for some games that might scratch that itch.
Steamdolls, Curse of the Sea Rats, Shantae and the Seven Sirens, Skelattack, Dark Sales, Albert’s Journey and Pear Potion in this week’s news.
5 out of 5. A nearly perfect example of what a “Metroidvania” can accomplish. Even compared to the advancements found in later 2D Metroid entries, Super Metroid holds up remarkably well.
