The Metroidvania Review is keeping its eyes out for any Metroidvania related news, and on a weekly basis we gather it up and share it with you. This will primarily be links to other sites, and you may have already heard the news throughout the week, but in case you missed something we hope to provide a good summary for what’s out there.
If you hear any interesting Metroidvania news – New Games, Major Updates to Existing Games, interviews with Metroidvania developers, or anything else of merit – share it with us and we will share it here on this weekly post with credit given to the finder (Please provide a link to your social media so we can send them back your way.) Even if you find something we already knew about, we’ll still give you credit.

Expiring Kickstarter Pages
Chiaroscuro – Expires October 29 12:00PM PDT
Take control of Rose, a mysterious amnesic, and explore a world that has fallen into darkness—where only a few precious flickers of light remain. You can wishlist this game on Steam if you want to receive notifications from there. There’s also a new Halloween boss update coming if you want to try it out when it hits.
Supraland – Now on Nintendo Switch! (Also on Windows PC (Steam and GOG))
The puzzle-focused whimsical Supraland is now available on Nintendo’s portable platform! Imagine if you added more exploration elements and ability upgrades to Valve’s popular Portal, and you’ll have an idea of what you’ll be getting with this game. We enjoyed it so much on PC that we gave it a 5 out of 5.
10mg: SNAAAK – Windows PC (Steam)
SNAAAK is a short Snakevania about encarnating a formless critter delving into the bowels of a bleak complex. I dunno if this actually counts as a Metroidvania, but it’s an interesting concept nevertheless.
10mg: Always Down – Windows PC (Steam, Itch.io)
You solve easy puzzles and overcome light platforming challenges as you go Always Down. Also a 10 minute game that may not have enough space to be a true Metroidvania, but still intriguing.
Adventures of Chris – Windows PC (Steam, Itch.io, GOG), Linux (Steam, Itch.io, GOG), MacOS (Steam, Itch.io, GOG), Switch
Technically we’re about a week late on reporting this one, but better late than never! Embark on a global adventure in this ‘90s-inspired adventure platformer. Help a chubby underdog kid with wacky superpowers battle bizarre villains, unlock and customize special moves and spells, and save the world!
Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials – Windows PC (Steam, GoG, itch.io), Switch
Explore a cave seeping with eldritch mystery. Solve puzzles with the help of your pet bat. In the next couple of weeks we will also be doing a developer spotlight for Unspeakable Pixels, with plans on reviewing this by the end of November.
Endless Memories – Windows PC (Steam) (Planned for other platforms in the future)
Join Rem in his journey through the dream world, inside the Laboratory of Dreams. Battle your way through an interconnected world where all minds are connected.
The Guise – Windows PC (Steam)
You play as Ogden, who after disobeying the headmistress of his orphanage he came upon a cursed mask that transforms him into a monster. Master your monstrous abilities, and try not to lose the last remnants of your humanity.
Outpost Delta – Windows PC (Steam), MacOS (Steam), Linux (Steam), PS4, Xbox One, Switch
An abandoned research station has gone unnoticed in the depths of space for years, until now. With an army of invasive aliens boarding the station, the outpost AI has rebooted its last remaining defense drone: Delta. Now Delta needs to repel the Klaath threat, save the outpost, and head out into space to search for answers.
Paradox Vector – Windows PC (Steam, Itch.io)
Explore impossible mazes while battling the Ancient Ones and their bio-mechanical servitors in this retro first-person Metroidvania. Uses vector graphics and is inspired by Metroid Prime.
Two Parsecs from Earth – Windows PC (Steam), PS4, Xbox One, Switch
Customize a robot with powerful abilities as you gather clues, gain powers and discover artifacts needed to fix a space ship. The main gimmick with this game is that you can choose your ability upgrades as you go, drastically changing how you approach the game world.
New Steam Pages
Duck Boy – Also coming to iOS
Controlling Duck Boy, you’ll navigate the mysterious land of Avenis on a personal quest for treasure and glory! Armed with an ancestral knife, worn treasure map, and his trusty Call, Duckboy will have to run, jump, and fight his way past dangerous enemies and areas alike.
Phoenotopia Awakening – Also available now on Nintendo Switch
Technically this is a “new port” but since it’s not released yet, I’ll keep it down here in this section. Pheonotopia Awakening is crammed full of incredible content ranging from immersive interactions with NPCs, challenging puzzles, and brutal combat. It’s one of the highlights of 2020 for us, and we gave it a 5 out of 5. Click the game page link for our full review!
Reina and Jericho
Caught unprepared, unarmed, and unknowingly carrying a powerful artifact, Reina must find and master the tools she needs to battle through the mountain fortress of an evil tyrant and search for a way to save a prisoner trapped within.
