The Metroidvania Review is keeping its eyes out for any Metroidvania related news, and on a weekly basis we gather it up and share it with you. This will primarily be links to other sites, and you may have already heard the news throughout the week, but in case you missed something we hope to provide a good summary for what’s out there.
If you hear any interesting Metroidvania news – New Games, Major Updates to Existing Games, interviews with Metroidvania developers, or anything else of merit – share it with us and we will share it here on this weekly post with credit given to the finder (Please provide a link to your social media so we can send them back your way.) Even if you find something we already knew about, we’ll still give you credit.

Touhou Double Focus – Now on Windows PC (Steam)! (Also on PS4, Vita)
“The Touhou derivative exploration action game Double Focus is now on Steam! Control crow tengu journalist and low-ranking patrol tengu Momiji Inubashiri and explore the world inside a book!”
We’ve been joking that we should just do a Touhou month and cover the other Touhouvanias we haven’t gotten to yet all at once.
New Game Updates
La-Mulana 2 Tower of Oannes (Coming soon)
Steam Page Link
“The tribes that were meant to have gone extinct have been discovered living in the ruins of Eg-Lana, the backdrop for La-Mulana 2. However, the 4th Children alone are nowhere to be found. Due to their low intelligence, they weren’t allowed into the ruins of Eg-Lana! Now, the ambitions of the 4th Children are about to come to light! Will they be able to unleash the “sealed ultimate power”?!”
We’ve said it before that the only way to get more La-Mulana is if they make more La-Mulana games. Well we’re in luck, because a new DLC is on its way.
Check out our La-Mulana 2 review here!
Fearmonium – Windows PC/MacOS (Steam)
“Fearmonium is a psychedelic metroidvania where suspense intertwines with humour. Beginning the game as an unpleasant memory, you must progress and become a true phobia by breaking through all boundaries to uncover the most hidden corners of Max’s mind.”
We will be reviewing this game on June 7th, so keep an eye out for that! (But as always, if it looks good to you, don’t wait for us!)
Heidelberg 1693 – Windows PC (Steam)
“Black magic in the age of pike and shot! Reload your musket after every blast in “Heidelberg 1693”, a challenging 2D action adventure set in a dark and twisted vision of Germany in the late 17th century.”
It seems this falls more into the “Classicvania” category, however each stage apparently has multiple routes.
Search (Not out until May 31st) – Windows PC (Steam)
“We’re always looking for something”
The store page advertises “pixel wind screen” as a game feature – we don’t know what that is, but we’re definitely curious now. Also if you’re interested in this game you should wishlist it in your browser from the steam link above, because it’s a bit difficult to find with its title name.
New Steam Page
“Sophie is a Metroidvania game that presents pixel art graphics and RPG characteristics driven by a deep, immersive, dramatical, and philosophical narrative. The game tells the tale of Sophie, the main character: a strong-minded girl that ventures through the kingdom of Sharam, motivated by silhouettes she believes to be hallucinations.”
