June Review and Article Schedule

Below are the games we plan on looking at this month.

Disclaimer – While we work very hard to keep our schedule exactly as we’ve announced it, technical difficulties or surprise high priority review requests can require us to adjust the schedule accordingly. We will post an announcement any time this happens.

Fearmonium – June 7
Dive into the mind of a young man named Max, who is struggling with the abuse and tragedy that has filled his life up to that point. Take on the role of a phobia on a quest to become a neurosis as you crush all of Max’s other anxieties to become the one that rules them all. If you’ve played Redblack Spade’s other Metroidvania Catmaze, you’ll be familiar with this game’s basic structure. But of course, the theming is what sets it apart.

Astalon: Tears of the Earth – June 14
After a swift death you make a pact with the Titan Of Death and set out to conquer a twisted tower and destroy the giants to protect the weak. This game has two main gimmicks. You have three characters that you switch between via a campfire, so level design is recontextualized based on the abilities you’re forced to use. It also includes a leveling system reminiscent of roguelikes where if you die you can power up before you try again.

Saving Princess June 21
You are Portia Crane, an asset recovery specialist tasked with saving the princess after a lost war. What appeals to me is this game’s apparent Mega Man inspiration, as I’ve said before I believe there’s still potential to be tapped with combining Mega Man style combat with Metroidvania level design.

Ender LIlies: Quietus of the Knights – June 28
Ever since I played this game’s Early Access version, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the full experience. The atmosphere of this game is nothing short of haunting and the replenishing consumable based combat promises diverse ways you can approach the game. If you’re interested in checking out our early access preview, you can find it here.

Bonus Review: Rocketron
I made a promise to review this in June, and I plan on keeping that promise. One week there will be two reviews, however which week that will be will depend on when I can fit it in (Most likely it will be released alongside Saving Princess.) June will not end without Rocketron getting a review however.
