“ASCENXION is a 2D shoot ’em up game where you explore the field to progress. We’ve borrowed elements of Metroidvania style games, in which you unlock new areas with skills and items that you obtain through exploration.”

“Uphold your pact with the Titan of Death, Epimetheus! Fight, climb and solve your way through a twisted tower as three unique adventurers, on a mission to save their village from impending doom!”
We will be reviewing this game on this coming Monday, but the sneak peek is that Astalon has ingenious level design, and is incredibly addictive as a result.

Carestia – Windows PC (Steam)
“Carestia is a mix of intriguing puzzles and precise action battles into a 2D side scrolling platformer. You will go from moments of thinking to solve and overcome the puzzles to moments of fast reactions to defeat a boss.”
There is a decent chance we will be reviewing this in the next couple of months, so stay tuned to the monthly progress update for more info.

Clockwork Calamity in Mushroom World: What would you do if the time stopped ticking? – Windows PC, MacOS, Linux (Steam, Itch.io)
“Clockwork Calamity in Mushroom World: What would you do if the time stopped ticking? is a platformer-game with colourful graphics, many items to find, a lovely trading system, huge procedurally generated labyrinths to explore, strange characters, a cozy lyrical soundtrack, and a mysterious witch named Eivlys at the heart of it all.”

“Devoul- Curse of the Soulless is a metroidvania style game set in a dark and corrupted world. Follow the adventures of Gebriel, a demon hunter, and Lani his ghost sidekick, while they explore the cursed castle Cambriala seeking the infamous vampire lord Raizer.”
This has been in development and highly publicized on r/metroidvania for the past few years – we’ll definitely be looking at this one sometime this year, as soon as possible.

Proving Path – Windows PC (Itch.io)
“Proving Path is a single-player 2D Metroidvania game using pixel art style. The player explores multiple areas according to the typical Metroidvania style, traversing back and forth through the map, finding secrets, and discovering new places again and again with newly acquired skills.”
Based on the advertised play time, this fits more closely in with the Mini-Metroidvania category. In any case, it’s currently free, so check it out.

Red Adventure – Windows PC (Steam)
“A girl in a red hood explores the unprecedented beauty of a mysterious world, armed with a bow and fighting off annoying slugs that have taken over this wonderful world and will not allow the heroine to calmly explore the world and get out of it.”

Rift Drifter Early Access – Windows PC (Steam)
“Explore a lost and abandoned temple and find what secrets lie within. Rift Drifter is a 2D action-adventure platformer, with Metroidvania and RPG elements, a rich story, and a hint of souls-like combat.”

Wonderboy: Asha in Monster World – Switch, PS4
“The adventures of Asha and Pepeloglu begin!
Asha, the warrior protagonist of the game, is involved in a serious incident that will affect the survival of her world. Our green-haired heroine doesn’t have to save the world all alone, and sets off on an adventure with her cute flying friend, the blue Pepelogoo. Asha and the Pepelogoo have to work together to become the heroes the world needs them to be. The road ahead is long – will they be able to save their world?”
This version also includes the original game, so this is also an option if you want to experience the 1990s classic.
