On the Friday immediately preceding the first Monday of each month when we would normally post our first review, we report on what we are doing to achieve our goal to review every Metroidvania game. This announcement includes our schedule of reviews and articles for the upcoming month, as well as any planned site adjustments or other important announcements.

Every third Monday is our Patreon review, where our Patreons nominate a review of their choice. This month’s choice is Wario Land 3!
Monthly Youtube Video:
On Friday October 1st, we are taking a crack at doing an analysis video with a Metroid Trilogy Story Analysis. Since this is our first Analysis video, we wanted to give ourselves a few extra weeks to get it done right. There’s a decent chance there will still be delays, but we hope it’s worth it.
September Review and Article Schedule
Below are the games we plan on looking at this month.
Disclaimer – While we work very hard to keep our schedule exactly as we’ve announced it, technical difficulties or surprise high priority review requests can require us to adjust the schedule accordingly. We will post an announcement any time this happens.
Unbound Worlds Apart – September 6
A zen puzzle platformer that combines platforming mechanics from Guacamelee and VVVVVV into one game, plus a ton of other surprises as you progress. It only has flavors of “Metroidvania”, making it more similar to Pankapu, but there’s a lot to love regardless of what genre it belongs to.
Vomitoreum – September 13
Inspired by Metroid Prime and Dark Souls, this FPS Metroidvania promises horrific environments intense combat. Will this be the true FPS Metroidvania we’ve been waiting for since Prime?
Wario Land 3– September 20
Nintendo took the immortal Wario design from the second game, stripped Wario’s kit down from the start, and then allowed you to unfold new abilities as the game progressed. This gives this Wario game a Metroidvania flavor, even if it plays out like a regular succession of levels.
F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch – September 27
Set to release on PS4 and PS5 this month, F.I.S.T. has the animal kingdom fighting back against the machines, with our main protagonist wielding a powerful robotic arm. Assuming there are no launch issues we do plan on reviewing F.I.S.T. in September, but if technical problems arise we may delay that review until they are fixed. In the event of a delay we will bump up Psychron from our October schedule.
